Kosa traka na tri načina

toofnica

evropske zvezde padalice.

Ah, koliko im je lep sjaj!

Ne dajte se preći, ovo nisu najnoviji, najsvežiji i najluđi,

ovo su ljudski, estetizovani, životni, utapajući,

reflektivni, mekani, slučajno duhoviti

i ponajviše veoma dragi filmovi.

sve to snimatanje, glumatanje, piskaranje i montiranje.

Drink Ink

Books Around The Table

Schreibmeisterbuch is a nice chewy German word that means Writing Master’s Book.

My friend Claudia collects them.  These books date from the 1700’s and were used to teach penmanship. Some are printed and some are manuscripts. They are filled with examples of beautiful script,

and ornament,

and playful doodles.

Here is lettering from another of Claudia’s books, from a different part of her library. The delicacy and rhythm of the line contrasts with the solidity and singularity of the rose.

Here the lines become the flight path of insects.

All of these images inspired me to fool around with my own fountain pen again.

With a pen I have to pay attention and let go at the same time. If I am too tight the line has no life or joy. If I am not paying attention the line has no purpose. In every drawing I can see where I erred in both…

“Bark!

“ROAR!

“WHINE!

“Squeal!

“Animals make all kinds of
sounds.

“But why do they
make them?

“And what
do they mean?”
[INSIDE JACKET]

Review

Can An Aardvark Bark uses rhyme, repetition, and information to get kids interested in how different animals speak. Seven groupings begin with a question and an answer, followed by four additional animals who use the stated sound. Increasing the font of each verb/sound highlights the speech word for children. Following the questions are boxes explaining how the animals, in the title case barks, to communicate and what it might mean.

“Lots of other animals bark too.
“When woodchucks feel scared,
they belt out a high-pitched whistle.
But they often bark and squeal
while fighting with one another.”

These sounds—bark/grunt, squeal/bark, roar/squeal…
